DEERFIELD (dpa-AFX) - Baxter International Inc. (BAX) released earnings for
its fourth quarter that increased from last year but missed the Street
estimates.

The company's earnings came in at $245 million, or $0.48 per share. This
compares with $181 million, or $0.36 per share, in last year's fourth quarter.

Excluding items, Baxter International Inc. reported adjusted earnings of $434
million or $0.85 per share for the period.

Analysts on average had expected the company to earn $0.86 per share, according
to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude
special items.

The company's revenue for the quarter rose 3.7% to $3.89 billion from $3.75
billion last year.
