WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Shares of Nucor Corporation (NUE) slipped nearly 5%
on Tuesday morning after its first-quarter profit missed Street view. The
company also expects second-quarter profit to decrease from the first quarter.
NUE is currently trading at $182.26, down $9.37 or 4.89%, on the Nasdaq. The
stock opened its trading at $190.98 after closing Monday at $191.63. The stock
has traded between $129.79 and $203.00 in the past 52-week period.
Nucor's first-quarter profit decreased from last year and missed the Street
estimates.
The company's bottom line came in at $844.84 million or $3.46 per share,
compared with $1.14 billion or $4.45 per share in last year's first quarter.
Analysts had expected earnings of $3.65 per share.
Revenue for the quarter fell to $8.14 billion from $8.71 billion last year.
Looking ahead, the company expects earnings in the second quarter to decrease
compared to the first quarter of 2024.
