WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) - Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. (HIG) revealed
earnings for its second quarter that increased from the same period last year
and beat the Street estimates.

The company's bottom line came in at $542 million, or $1.73 per share. This
compares with $439 million, or $1.32 per share, in last year's second quarter.

Excluding items, Hartford Financial Services Group Inc. reported adjusted
earnings of $588 million or $1.88 per share for the period.

Analysts on average had expected the company to earn $1.85 per share, according
to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude
special items.

The company's revenue for the quarter rose 12.7% to $6.05 billion from $5.37
billion last year.
