COLUMBUS (dpa-AFX) - American Electric Power Co Inc (AEP) released a profit
for its first quarter that increased from last year and beat the Street
estimates.

The company's bottom line came in at $1.00 billion, or $1.91 per share. This
compares with $397.0 million, or $0.77 per share, in last year's first quarter.

Excluding items, American Electric Power Co Inc reported adjusted earnings of
$670.4 million or $1.27 per share for the period.

Analysts on average had expected the company to earn $1.26 per share, according
to figures compiled by Thomson Reuters. Analysts' estimates typically exclude
special items.

The company's revenue for the quarter rose 6.4% to $5.0 billion from $4.7
billion last year.
